Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan

Today (31 Dec 2009), I had a great opportunity of trying one of the Malaysians' exotic gourmet, which I haven't tried before, in one of the local restaurants in Kota Tinggi, Johor. This unique restaurant is named Mahkota Restaurant, selling local Malay dishes including the most famous dish, Horseshoe Crab (Belangkas).

It is stir fried with chilli and the taste is awesome! The place is run by Pak Hamid, a former fisherman from Tanjung Tuai. The restaurant gained famed as it is the only place that sells this rare delicacy. The locals prize the eggs of the Belangkas which are small, sticky and yellowish in colour. The crab does not have much meat and only the female crab is cooked. This restaurant is named after the Crown Prince of Johor as his favourite food is also Belangkas.

Besides Belangkas, I had also tried the local 'Gong-Gong' conch shells (Laevistrombus), where the succulent meat inside is fished out with a pin and dipped in a spicy sauce before eating. For those who are fond of trying new Malaysian cuisine, I would personally suggest Mahkota Retaurant as your next spot. It is located near to Mawai - Kota Tinggi main road. Thanks to Cikgu Ismail Md. Yatim for introducing me these mouth-watering delicacies. I will never forget this memorable experience as it is the best ending of my 2009 journey... Happy New Year 2010!
